Springhead Pumping Station

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

It was such a fantastic afternoon Debbie and me went for a walk to the old Springhead Pumping Station, Springhead Avenue, Kingston upon Hull. (The Springhead Pumping Station is known locally as the Water Works)

The main purpose of the walk was to locate the place the old chimney was situated and an old out house.

Whilst walking around I took a few photos from different angles of the now disused pumping station which until a few years ago was used as the Yorkshire Water Museum.

I found an article at the English Heritage web site stating:

Springhead Water Museum, Springhead Avenue, Kingston-on-Hull, East Yorkshire.
This former pumping station was built for Kingston-on-Hull corporation in 1864, and was enlarged in 1876 by the addition of an engine house. It is in an Italianate style with an octagonal lantern. The building now serves as a museum.

And here’s an old photo of the pumping station showing the chimney and out house.
